MATE focuses on the development of the ONLINE and OFFLINE intercultural communication skills of higher education students during their communication on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram a well as during their face to face interaction. MATE does not focus merely on diversity and cultural difference but on similarities, on the common humanity of all human beings which is to be discovered and experienced by participants in certain innovative, experiential activities.
The main objectives of the project are:
- To develop a holistic, innovative methodology for the acquisition of intercultural competences offline and online.
- To provide specific outputs that will support the above-mentioned methodology.
- To assist young migrants to acquire social capital, in the form of social networks, relationships and personal connections.
- To recognise and battle forms of hate speech off- and on-line (including disguised forms)
to assist young migrants and locals to launch low-budget and effective awareness raising campaigns in the social media battling discrimination, hate speech and promoting respect and diversity.
